Travel Tip:

If you would like a Vermont vacation but like to ‘plan as you go’ Stowe is arguably your best destination. Stowe has a certain magic – Its 40 minutes from the state’s largest city (think shopping) but at the base of Mount Mansfield. There are miles of ski trails, paved walking trails, hiking trails, horseback riding, a plethora of rental shops and outfitters of every description, great restaurants & galleries, seasonal nightly entertainment and a community eager to be your destination of choice. The Von Trapp family, of the Sound of Music movie fame settled here and their grounds have areas open to the public and are all immaculately maintained.

Stowe has worked hard to keep its small town appearance. Except for fuel signs, there’s hardly a national brand sign anywhere in town: it still has that great 50’s or 60’s style charm that is so alluring. Nationally acclaimed, there’s no spot anywhere in the state that’s so near all the fun, yet so traditionally Vermont.

For Stowe lodging, visit GoStowe.com or consider the Commodores Inn.

The Commodores Inn

Commodores Inn is where Stowe begins. Just outside the door is a rich world of quaint shops, superb restaurants, world-class sports activities and stunning sight seeing.

Inside, you’ll find a complete array of amenities including heated outdoor and indoor pools, Jacuzzis, a Sports Bar, reading nook, mini gym and game rooms. Our dining room features seasonal hearty breakfast buffets, home made traditional New England fare, an outstanding Country Dinner Buffet and Hearty Soup and Salad Bar. Tasty informal fare is available in the Sports Bar while you keep up with the sporting world on any of the several TVs in a relaxed nautical atmosphere.

The warm months see radio controlled model yacht racing by the Stowe Yacht Club on the property's 3-˝ acre lake. You can also be the commodore of your own kayak, paddleboat or rowboat: our trout stocked lake is just steps outside our dining room patio and all boat rentals are free so bring your fishing poles!

And please make sure to meet Bruce and Carrie, your hosts. They’d rather share the property with friends than guests!
